INDULGENCE IN A SLICE, REVISITED.

Introducing the dark chocolate-blood orange ganache tart with a roasted pistachio and walnut crust! I’ve linked the Food52 nut crust recipe here; for the ganache filling, refer to “Dark Chocolate Tart” by Liv for Cake.

PACKED WITH A PUNCH.

Do not underestimate the chewy gingerbread cookie! I did not realize that black pepper could be added to a dessert recipe (and work)!! Pro-tip for these - freeze your fresh ginger before grating with a microplane. Your life will never be the same.

THE SPICE OF LIFE.

These chai-spiced cinnamon rolls are the perfect blend of warm, seasonal flavors for a chilly fall or winter treat. For a thicker glaze as pictured above, I recommend adding an 8oz block of cream cheese that has softened to room temperature to the glaze recipe that is listed in the link!

SHINE BRIGHT…

Like these sweet yeast rolls - a must for your Thanksgiving spread! Served with a generous smear of whipped honey butter (“Homemade Honey Butter” by Sally’s Baking Addiction").

Aptly named for the occasion (love you always, Pepe). I’ve linked Smitten Kitchen’s decadent fudge frosting here; the interior is another genius creation by Deb, her “confetti party cake” (highly recommend)!

We’ve got a fudgy brownie cookie topped with a gooey caramelized white chocolate spread - all we need is a tall glass of milk.

THE BIRTHDAY CAKE OF MY DREAMS.

As a Libra, it is my sworn duty to be extravagant at all times - that includes baking my own triple layer choocolate ombre cake to celebrate turning 25. Lemme break it down for you: dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and white chocolate cake layers, with fudge frosting and brown butter cream cheese frostings. Long story short, this cake lives in my fridge and my mind rent-free.

ON A RAINY DAY IN NYC…

If you want to feel like the main character in a moody YA novel, I highly recommend making these pumpkin chocolate chip scones on a gray day in the densely-populated city of your choosing.

SUGAR, (PUMPKIN) SPICE, AND EVERYTHING NICE.

Pumpkin cinnamon rolls + maple cream cheese glaze + vanilla espresso candles = pure bliss.

THE LEVAIN LOOK-ALIKE.

The chocolate-walnut cookie is a staple of the iconic Levain Bakery in Manhattan, NY. As a Levain cookie enthusiast, I can confidently claim that this is as good as the real deal - perhaps even better.

THE ADULT TOASTER’S STRUDEL.

Homemade puff pastry (linked) + mixed berry compote + Brie cheese + rosemary + honey. The perfect balance of sweet and savory. (I rolled the dough out to 15in x 10in and made 6 strudels, in the oven at 360 F for 25-28 min)

You will never go wrong with yellow cake with chocolate frosting - it’s just science. The frosting recipe is linked because it is that crucial; Smitten Kitchen also has a great yellow cake recipe but feel free to swap with your fave!

BROWN (BUTTER) IS THE NEW BLACK.

Adding brown butter to cream cheese frosting adds a caramelized flavor that enhances the warmth of carrot cake or any spiced cake. The frosting is linked, but I used Sally’s recipe for the carrot cake as well.

There are levels to this - dark chocolate cake with peanut butter buttercream, Reeses’s chunks, and a dark chocolate ganache.

Defeat Ms. Trunchbull in style - rich dark chocolate espresso cake dressed with chocolate mousse, raspberries, and dark chocolate ganache.

I’m not much of a brownie fan, but these fudgy, peppermint brownies - complete with a decadent, white chocolate spread - were enough to convince me that Santa is real.

As a bonus, save the syrup for a citrusy touch to sweet or savory creations (I’ve made orange chicken with mine)!

INDULGENCE IN A SLICE, REVISITED.

I made this dark chocolate-blood orange ganache tart for the first time on New Year’s Eve 2020, and decided to try it again for New Year’s Eve 2021. I’ve kept the original post as a testament to the power of practice and consistency. I’ve honed my skills over the past year, but in terms of the flavor, this one was just as good as I remembered. The ganache tart recipe is linked here; scroll down for the candied orange slice recipe for some added flair! I added the zest of half of an orange and a spoonful of the orange syrup reduction for an added citrus touch to balance the richness of the ganache.
